Description
The Faculty of Theology and Religious Studies of KU Leuven is one of the oldest theological faculties in the world. Since 1432 the Faculty has touched the lives of countless students, who are now working and living all over the world. The Faculty of Theology and Religious Studies conceives itself as situated at the crossroads of the academy, the Church, and present-day culture and society, with a special place for the Catholic tradition. The Faculty’s research and teaching is always characterised by a careful handling of the past, a profound commitment with regard to the present, and a hopeful belief in a better future.
Task in ReIReS
KU Leuven has a crucial role in the project by providing access to the rich collections available in Leuven and by giving young researchers the support they need in consulting this material. In this context the Faculty of Theology and Religious Studies is in charge of work package 4 – Transnational Access to Archival Documents. Furthermore, providing digital access to the diverse, dispersed and multi-lingual collections and research databases of the ReIReS partners is also a responsibility of KU Leuven. With work package 6 – Resource Discovery and Linking for Religious Studies, LIBIS is responsible for the development of a virtual research infrastructure to improve digital access to relevant sources and databases. Over the next 3 years, they will work on a data model aimed at the exchange of religious datasets and an innovative platform that will give researchers access to a multitude of datasets from public institutions as well as commercial publishers.
